Every day the news from Washington, as in DC,
carries yet another layer
of seemingly insurmountable set backs.
Bumps in the road, a wall,
winter grayness and bare branches
mirror the sadness wrapped around my soul.

Clouds finally brought rain
to parched golden hills turning green.
In the distance, like a prayer,
I reach for the sky’s light.
